2007/2008 Cultural Trip to Japan
Spend a week in Japan! A bilingual chaperone will accompany you on the trip as a guide, where we plan to have numerous field trips to explore Tokyo and surrounding areas. Be amazed at the contrasts of Japan's traditional and high-tech culture. This is a trip you don't want to miss.

In order to participate you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- In good health and be able to walk since Tokyo is a very pedestrian-oriented city.

Trip Itinerary (the time and order of activities are subject to change)
| Day 1 |
- Depart Atlanta
- Meet at Atlanta Airport 3 hours prior to departure.
|
| Day 2 |
- Arrive Tokyo – Narita Airport
- Take a train/subway to the hotel.
- Check-in to the hotel.
- Meet in the hotel lobby for a brief orientation.
- Go out to dinner together.
- After dinner, explore the neighborhood (optional – you can go back to the hotel if you are too tired from jetlag)

| Day 3 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 8:00 a.m.
- Stop by a bank for those who need to exchange dollars to yen. (You will be given 15,000 yen as food money when you arrive to Japan).
- Visit a famous street market, Ameya-yokocho (Ameyoko). Walk/shop along the street and eat lunch.
- Visit Akihabara Electronics Shopping District – where you can try out the latest technology. You can explore on your own, or walk around with the guide (3 hours).

| Day 4 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 8:00 a.m.
- Tokyo Morning Bus Tour
We will be joining a bus tour (in English).
Tour schedule:
- Visit a shrine, Meiji Shinto Shrine - Japan's most famous Shinto shrine dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and his consort.
Drive by the Japanese Capitol (the House of Parliament)
- Visit Imperial Palace East Garden
- Visit a temple, Asakusa Kannon Temple - The oldest and most popular Buddhist temple in Tokyo.
- Shop at Asakusa/Nakamise - A colorful shopping street leading to the temple, lined with tiny food and souvenir shops.
- Visit Ginza Shopping District - Tokyo's most famous high-end shopping, dining, an entertainment district.
- Department stores – Mitsukoshi, Matsuzakaya, and many other large department stores.
- Sony Building - a showroom where the newest Sony products can be seen and tried out.

| Day 5 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 9:00 a.m.
- Sumida River Cruise – ride a water bus from Asakusa to Odaiba. Approximately a 40 minute ride.
- Odaiba - Futuristic shopping and entertainment district. You can explore on you own, or walk around with the guide. You can visit Fuji Television headquarters, one of the largest TV networks, Panasonic Center, Mega Web (Toyota showroom),115 meter tall (377 feet) ferris wheel, shopping mall, and more.

| Day 6 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 7:30 a.m.
- Day trip to Mt. Fuji and Hakone on a tour bus, return to Tokyo by Shinkansen (Bullet Train)
- We will be joining a bus tour (in English).
- Drive up Mt. Fuji to the Fifth Station (altitude 2,305 m/7562 feet.)
- A cruise on Lake Ashi.
- Ride Mt.Komagatake Aerial Cableway.
- Ride Shinkansen back to Tokyo around 8:00p.m.

| Day 7 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 9:00 a.m.
- Discover Trendy Tokyo
- We’ll visit two trendy spots known as “cities within the city”. At each location, you can explore on your own, or walk around with the guide.
- Roppoingi Hills (3 hours) - One of Tokyo's trendiest spots. The district consists of residential, recreational, and office space, an art museum, cinema complex, hotel, various shops, restaurants, and cafes. Opened in 2003.
- Yebisu Garden Place (3 hours) - Built on the former site of a beer brewery. The district consists of roughly a dozen buildings and skyscrapers, and features a large array of restaurants and shops.
- Tokyo nightlife (Optional) For those who would like to stay out and experience the Tokyo nightlife. Others will be escorted back to the hotel.

| Day 8 |
- Meet in the hotel lobby at 9:00 a.m.
- Discover Modern Tokyo – Pop Culture
- Harajuku and Shibuya – Start our walking tour from Harajyuku station to Takeshitadori to Omotesando. The streets are lined by many trendy shops, fashion boutiques, used clothes stores, crepe stands and fast food outlets. Continue our walking tour to Yoyogi park and Shibuya. The large intersection in Shibuya has been used in many films, and is one of the most interesting places to watch the masses of people.
- Visit a Japanese family and join them at their evening dinner at home. We will place 2 people per home.

| Day 9 |
- Depart Tokyo
- Check-out from the hotel at 9:00 a.m.
- Ride a train to the airport
- Check-in your luggage.
- Walk around the airport and eat lunch. There are many gift shops and restaurants at the airport.
Note: The guide will go to the airport with you to see you off, but will not be returning to Atlanta with you since she will stay an extra few days with her family.
- Return to Atlanta

Please note: If we don't have a minimum of 5 participants for this trip, the trip may be canceled (you will receive a 100% refund).
What's included in the trip cost:
Lodging*, transportation to destinations specified on the itinerary, 15,000 yen to purchase own lunch and dinner**, guided tours.
*You will stay in a mid-class, western-style hotel in Tokyo. The cost is based on a double occupancy; Additional fee may apply for a single occupancy.
**The money is for 6 lunches and 5 dinners; The rest of the meals are included in the trip cost.
What's not included in the trip cost:
Air fare, souvenirs and other personal purchases, optional travel insurance, visa (if required by the Japanese government). You will also need a passport to travel.
